China's coast guard said it took control measures against Philippine vessels near Huangyan Dao after accusing them of entering waters under Chinese jurisdiction.
The incident involved two Philippine public vessels, identified as MMOV 3012 and MMOV 3018, which China said ignored repeated warnings and dissuasion.
Chinese authorities said the response included tracking, monitoring and blocking the vessels until they left the area, and described the operations as professional and lawful.
The episode adds another point of friction in the South China Sea, where competing maritime claims and law-enforcement encounters continue to raise regional tension.
Beijing said it would continue rights-protection and law-enforcement operations in the waters around Huangyan Dao to safeguard territorial sovereignty and maritime interests.
