Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is scheduled to visit India for a two-day BRICS Parliamentary Forum beginning October 26.
The gathering will bring legislative leaders from the expanded grouping together under the direction of Indian lower-house speaker Om Birla.
Ghalibaf's attendance carries extra diplomatic weight because he has served as a prominent Iranian negotiator during the conflict involving Israel and the United States.
His role in discussions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz also places energy security and regional navigation behind the formal parliamentary agenda.
For India, the forum offers a channel to maintain dialogue with Tehran while engaging the wider BRICS membership through parliamentary institutions.
Birla presented the meeting as part of a broader effort to make legislatures contribute more directly to cooperation among the bloc's members.
The visit does not itself announce a bilateral agreement, and the available schedule leaves any separate Indian-Iranian talks to be confirmed.
Even so, Ghalibaf's presence gives the forum strategic relevance at a time when conflict and shipping risks are reshaping relations across the region.
