USA Rare Earth completed a $1.5 billion financing package needed to acquire Serra Verde, Brazil's only operating rare-earth miner. The transaction is expected to close after an additional $250 million commitment from the United States government.

American public financing now totals $750 million, about 3.8 billion reais, up from the amount initially planned. The expanded support places the purchase inside Washington's effort to secure mineral supply chains beyond China.

Serra Verde operates the Pela Ema mine in Goiás, one of the world's most advanced rare-earth projects. It is positioned to become the only commercial producer outside Asia supplying the American market and has a five-year purchase agreement worth $300 million.

Pela Ema produces all four magnetic rare-earth elements needed for permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, renewable-energy systems and defense equipment. That combination gives the Brazilian asset strategic value across civilian and military industries.

The purchase renews debate in Brazil over foreign control of sensitive mineral assets. A critical-minerals and rare-earths bill already approved by the lower house awaits a Senate decision, linking industrial policy, national sovereignty and access to international capital.
