Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan signed a Treaty on Allied Relations during Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev's state visit to Kyrgyzstan. Presidents Sadyr Japarov and Mirziyoyev concluded the document in Cholpon-Ata.
The two leaders issued statements to the media on the same day. Japarov identified the treaty as the central result of the state visit rather than one agreement among several routine documents.
The Kyrgyz president described the decision as historic. He said it formalizes the level of trust achieved by the neighboring states and gives their relationship a new political and legal basis.
Japarov also linked the alliance to a long-term agenda for joint development. The treaty therefore establishes a framework meant to carry bilateral cooperation beyond the immediate visit.
The Uzbek presidency characterized the agreement as an elevation of the partnership to the highest level of interstate cooperation. Both governments thus presented the treaty as a formal change in the status of their relationship.
