Fincantieri has secured a three-year contract to operate the Qatar Emiri Naval Forces' Training and Simulation Centre, deepening its role in the Gulf country's naval modernization effort.

The agreement moves the Italian shipbuilder beyond the delivery of platforms and infrastructure into the operational management of a facility designed to prepare Qatar's naval personnel for complex maritime scenarios.

The center, delivered by Fincantieri in 2021 as part of Qatar's naval modernization program, supports the training of officers, non-commissioned officers and sailors through advanced simulation systems.

Under the contract, Fincantieri will provide a team made up mainly of former military personnel with experience in naval operations, platform management, operational procedures and maritime doctrine.

The company will also supervise simulation-based training and implement a knowledge-transfer program intended to help Qatari personnel gradually assume responsibility for managing the facility.

The contract reflects a broader regional focus on training infrastructure, as Middle Eastern states invest in controlled environments, simulation systems and test facilities to improve operational readiness across military and security missions.

Qatar has also announced plans for a $50-million facility to simulate high-risk rescue and security missions for military, police and emergency responders, while other regional initiatives include naval simulation networks and defense testing ranges.
