China's senior diplomat Wang Yi urged BRICS countries to strengthen joint action in response to security challenges during talks in New Delhi.
Wang delivered the message in a meeting with Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu. He said the group should combine its efforts and respond collectively to pressures affecting the international security environment.
The Chinese official argued that BRICS members should contribute to safeguarding that environment and bring greater certainty to a world marked by turmoil.
Wang was in the Indian capital to attend the 16th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security.
In addition to his diplomatic role, Wang is a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs.
The meeting with Shoigu placed coordination among BRICS members at the centre of the discussion, with Wang presenting collective action as the bloc's contribution to security and international stability.
